**Special Containment Procedures:** SCP-9080 instances are now exclusively manifested as replies to letters addressed to SCP-9080-1. As the existence of SCP-9080-1 is not known outside of the Foundation, no additional containment measures are presently necessary. Any SCP-9080 instances produced in response to Foundation correspondence may be read by the sender prior to cataloging, digitization, and archival at Site-96.

Given the currently limited understanding of SCP-9080-1, meaningful containment of it does not appear feasible at this time.

**Description:** SCP-9080 is the collective designation for a continuous series of handwritten letters that manifest without postmarks, stamps, or return addresses. These letters are uniformly written in blue ballpoint ink on lined paper and placed within envelopes made of construction paper.

As of September 9th, 20██, SCP-9080 instances have ceased spontaneous manifestation among civilian populations. At present, instances exclusively manifest as direct replies to letters voluntarily addressed to SCP-9080-1. Foundation personnel may submit letters to SCP-9080-1 through any standard mail collection box;[[footnote]] The envelope must have "From:" written on it followed by the sender's first and last name, then "To:", followed by the word "Mom". Upon depositing within a mail collection box, the letter will disappear.[[/footnote]] an SCP-9080 instance typically manifests within 24 hours within the sender's personal mail receptacle. Though previous SCP-9080 instances often contained brief predictions, current instances vary significantly in length and tone, frequently containing unsolicited advice, warnings, or commentary regarding the sender's life, and enthusiasm about having received a letter.

SCP-9080-1 appears to be a sapient entity, self-designating as "Mom" on SCP-9080 instances. Its abilities and general existence are poorly understood, and current evidence suggests that it does not exist in a spatially or temporally fixed state. Attempts to localize, neutralize, or otherwise interfere with SCP-9080-1 have proven ineffective, as no consistent anchor or measurable presence has been identified. Given these limitations, meaningful containment of SCP-9080-1 is not currently or apparently feasible. Attempts to gather more information surrounding SCP-9080-1 through letter correspondence is ongoing.

The entity itself claims to observe humanity collectively, referring to individuals as its "children", and has expressed both a comfort and a frustration with human nature. SCP-9080-1's conversation with Foundation researcher Sunny Sato suggested that most humans are "bound" by predetermined fates, whereas Sato uniquely lacked one. SCP-9080-1 described this absence as the essence of human "free will", implying that what humanity understands as free choice may instead be an exceptional or deliberately granted condition, rather than a universal state. The validity and implications of this claim remain under investigation.

Following this event, SCP-9080-1 claimed that it would, or at the very least attempt, remove the predetermined fates of humanity, therefore granting them "free will". As of writing, general human behavior has not appeared to significantly change. Whether SCP-9080-1's statements reflect reality or not remains unknown.
