The frosted glass window previously showed nothing but dark on the inside, but now standard Foundation-white fluorescent light peeks through the doorframe. He walks down the hall past numerous rooms and into a far wider, far more open space. The regional center of His trusted employees. Alpha-1 operatives mill around, some filtering in from the garage, some bussing large quantities of liquid mnestics to the next wing over, some at terminals uploading footage and operation reports. They all freeze and salute when He enters the room.}}##

They all begin cheering, applauding, patting each other on the back, and rejoicing in their successful work. Still, their celebration is controlled enough that they part when He walks across the room.}}##

Curiously, He places a finger in the new puncture in His side. Fitting, He’d say it was. Then He carefully prizes the fountain pen from out of the inside of His hand. The Administrator is very fond of this particular pen, as He used it to sign the Second Vellum Treaty in 1858. A good year for Him, a very good year.}}##

The Administrator places His hand on the scanner, feeling the spike in the center slide harmlessly through the hole in His palm. The door unseals, and He enters His modest place of work. A nice mahogany desk, an arch-supporting chair, and a classic green banker’s lamp complementing the velvety red curtains. There’s no sky outside the curtains, of course, but they bring the room together.}}##

It’d be nice to finally remove that telephone He had to have installed. That couldn’t have been more than forty, fifty years ago, right? Feels like yesterday to Him.}}##

Would that there were another way. In the days before the ratifications, before the Insurgence, before the others, when it was just another promotion. Oh sure, there was still the Cabinet putting up fake councils, and there were still the restrictions and secrets. But the Administrator looks at this system, and He feels like He is staring up at some insurmountable monolith.}}##
