+ Her Majesty's Foundation for the Secure Containment of the Paranormal


Also known as Her Majesty's Foundation for the Study of Curiosities and Phantasmagoria, Her Majesty's Foundation was a British organisation that became a part of the Foundation at some point in the late-19th century. One of the oldest paranatural organisations in history, Her Majesty's Foundation paved the way for many methodologies in anomalous research and containment.


The exact origin of Her Majesty's Foundation is lost to the ages. However, many historians believe it came into fruition during Britain's medieval period, around the time of the Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain. Some even posited that organisation and Estate noir, its French equivalent, were once one group, which later separated during the First Hundred Years' War and resulted in a bitter rivalry that lasted until their reunion as the Foundation. Following this schism, the group fell into discord. With the Church acting as the organisation's overseers, the group grew increasingly incompetent, held back by theological stultiloquence, a lack of scientific method, and anomalous embezzlement and larceny.


Fortunately, before the organisation could collapse entirely, Elizabeth I, assisted by her court occultist, John Dee, took over as overseer, pressured by the ongoing Anglo-Spanish War, of which anomalous paratechnology was covertly used. Now independent of any religious oversight, the group was officially titled Her Majesty's Foundation for the Study of Curiosities and Phantasmagoria — a scientific institute under royal patronage, established to study the anomalous for the protection and amelioration of the British Empire.


Between 1585 and 1775, Her Majesty's Foundation's influence and position in the anomalous world grew tenfold, and served as a substantial and elusive backbone in the expansion of the British Empire. However, by 1783, the group had experienced a second schism, brought on by the American Revolutionary War and the Fifth Occult War, which resulted in several members leaving the group to form the American Secure Containment Initiative, another lifelong rival. Around this time, the goal of Her Majesty's Foundation also began to change, choosing to focus on containing and securing anomalies rather than profiting and integrating. In 1815, following an event known as 'The Oxfordshire Flood', which resulted in the deaths of nearly two thousand civilians, Her Majesty's Foundation for the Study of Curiosities and Phantasmagoria rechristened itself as Her Majesty's Foundation for the Secure Containment of the Paranormal.


The group's official closed office around the late 19th century, when, due to the sheer devastation and rise in anomalous activity brought on by the Sixth Occult War, the group signed the [[[poczatki-normalnosci-i-jej-przyszlosc|Convention on Preternatural Phenomena]]] and aligned themselves with 12 other prenormalcy and occult organisations, joining together to form the SCP Foundation. Though no longer in existence, much of the group's resources and efforts have been passed on to the SCP Foundation, with some of their old sites remaining in use to this day.

+++ __Chamberlains__


The Chamberlains, numbered 1 to 5, are the heads of Her Majesty's Foundation. Each oversees a specific faction of the organisation's operation: Research, Intelligence, Military, Diplomacy, and Administration. Factions' purposes are as follows:


* **Research:** Faction holds responsibility for understanding and analysing anomalous phenomena, as well as their imprisonment and possible usage. Made up of scientists, technicians, curators, antiquarians and engineers.
* **Intelligence:** Faction holds responsibility for gaining intelligence, both regarding likely anomalous activity and possible undiscovered specimens. Operatives, agents who work in the field, work within this faction.
* **Military:** Faction holds responsibility of security as well as deploying and training military forces, often for the procurement or termination of anomalous threats or enemy forces. Forces, soldiers who are deployed to deal with anomalous threats, work within this faction.
* **Diplomacy:** Faction holds responsibility of meeting and delegating with government bodies or third parties such as anomalous groups.
* **Administration:** Faction holds responsibility over the organisation's finances, documentation and maintenance.


In the early days, only nobles and members of the Church served as Chamberlains, though as time went on, many scientists, government officials, and military chiefs took on the role. The identities of many of these Chamberlains have been lost to time, mostly due to the unintentional data loss made during the SCP Foundation's rushed creation. Chamberlains have several Heads and Deputy Heads working for them, with each one overseeing their faction's operation in their respective country.


+++ __Operatives__


The equivalent of the SCP Foundation's Agents, Operatives worked directly under the Intelligence faction of the group. Skilled in various espionage practices, Operatives work in the shadows, gathering intelligence about illegal or anomalous activity, often requiring the use of blackmail, political destabilisation, and even assassination to achieve their goals. Some Operatives, usually those sent to deal with more elusive or threatening cases, were trained in more anomalous practices, including thaumaturgy or psionics, though unlike Force members, they were not permitted to use registered anomalies. As the Intelligence faction required information from all kinds of sources, Operatives were the only positions within the group where women made up a substantial number of the employees, though nothing compared to modern SCP Foundation proportions.


+++ __Forces__


The Mobile Task Force of the day, Forces were Her Majesty's Foundation private militaries, separated into various units according to required training, targets, or ecosystems. Like Operatives, Force members were often trained in anomalous practices like thaumaturgy and psionics, but unlike Operatives, they were also granted the use of experimental paratechnology and, in some scenarios, registered anomalies. Forces gained their titles based on Greek Alphabet characters, a practice which the SCP Foundation took on.

The term given to individuals or groups that Her Majesty's Foundation have deemed important in researching anomalies or gaining further intelligence. Given a three-digit number, Suspects are classified by their Name, Occupation, Nationality, and Perpetration.

+++ __A Brief History Lesson__


Given that this is a historical and geographical-focused GoI, it is good to have a summary of the UK and the British Empire's development over the centuries.


Beginning in the Post-Roman period, around the start of the 5th century, the British Isles entered a rather chaotic period, with the local Celts constantly warring and mixing with immigrating tribes from Germanic and Scandinavian Europe - the Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Vikings - all of whom arrived for various reasons and established several colonies. Around the 10th century, the British Isles were invaded once again by the Normans, with William the Conqueror becoming the first king of England and kickstarting the English monarchy. Following this, the British Isles entered the Medieval period, which was fraught with civil wars, religious crusades and waves of plagues.


A few hundred years later, Wales and Ireland were officially united with England by Henry VIII during the 16th century, and were later joined by Scotland in the 17th century. Here, the beginning of the UK and the British Empire started, thanks to the influence of numerous figures like Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Francis Bacon. The Empire became a dominant sea power, and established trade routes and colonies across the world, in Africa, America and Asia. Even with the loss of the Americas following the war for Independence in 1776, the British Empire remained a dominant superpower, growing in strength with the Industrial Revolution, eventually controlling nearly half of the world during the reign of Queen Victoria. The Empire finally began to disintegrate in the 20th century, brought on mostly by economic turmoil and bankruptcy.

+++ __Famous Incidents__


+++++ __The Fimbulwinter__


An anomalous event that occurred in 536 AD, which devastated most of the Northern Hemisphere's climate, bringing about numerous catastrophic changes like crop failure, plagues, mass emigration, the collapse of empires and over a century of global cooling. In the public eye, the event was speculated to be caused by a series of volcanic eruptions; however, in truth, no such eruptions occurred. Though the real cause of the event is unknown, various elements of folklore, mythology and religious passages reference a great battle occurring at the time, and the appearance of giant beasts and unusual creatures. In addition, recent evidence indicates significant surges of thaumaturgical and psionic power were released during this period.


+++++ __The Oxfordshire Flood__


An illegal attempt by then Chamberlain 4, Baron Gordon McCormick, to sell several anomalous organisms to [[[black-diamond-billions-hub|Percival Darke]]] of Marshall, Carter, and Dark, Ltd. During the exchange, the attempt was discovered by the Forces, leading to the release of almost all organisms into the public. Even after three weeks of conjoined effort between Her Majesty's Foundation and their rival, the British Occult Service, only around 60% of the original catalogue was recaptured. Given the incident caused nearly two thousand civilian deaths and a still ongoing cryptid culling campaign, it is considered to be Her Majesty's Foundation's greatest embarrassment.


+++++ __The Sixth Occult War__


An occult war, where several anomalous organisations and anomaly-controlling organisations underwent conflicts, exacerbated by political and cultural pressure. Concluded when a cabal called The Godless defeated an artificial deity, the Demiurge, in an unsuccessful attempt to harness its power. This altered the landscape significantly, resulting in a large spike in anomalous activity that continued into the 20th and 21st centuries. Following the war, Her Majesty's Foundation aligned itself with 12 other prenormalcy organisations to form the Foundation.

+++ __How to start__


Writing a Her Majesty's Foundation article is just like writing a regular SCP Foundation article, though there are a few key differences. Firstly, unlike Foundation articles, the Her Majesty's Foundation perspective is entirely from a British point of view. That being said, you don't have to focus the article's topic on something that only occurs within the UK. Only the perspective has to be from a British standpoint, not the location. Secondly, Her Majesty's Foundation works are history-focused articles. The group no longer existed by the 20th century, so focus your story on some point in the past. Fortunately, as the group existed between the 5th and 19th centuries and travelled wherever Brits went, you have a large playing field.


If you want my advice, articles focusing on historical events, items of cultural importance, and politics around the British Empire are preferable.
