[[>]] [[module rate]] [[/>]] **Item #:** SCP-8742 **Object Class:** Keter **Special Containment Procedures:** SCP-8742 is both uncontainable and self-obscuring, making the Foundation's role in the containment of SCP-8742 that of observation and record-keeping. Disappearances tied to known factors of SCP-8742 are to be investigated by Specialized Task Force Rho-7 "Rock Bottom" in order to curb suspicion. Recordings of SCP-8742 online are to be identified and destroyed. **Description:** SCP-8742 is a recurring anomalous event that affects any location near water worldwide. SCP-8742 targets a single subject per event; no link [[footnote]] Other than the circumstances explained below. [[/footnote]] between SCP-8742 subjects has been found. The manifestation of SCP-8742 is tied to a series of circumstances, which has allowed the Foundation to identify SCP-8742 related deaths over time. These circumstances are listed below. * SCP-8742 events will only occur between the hours of 2 AM and 5 AM. * SCP-8742 will only trigger between sunset and sunrise. * SCP-8742 //always// affects subjects that are alone. * SCP-8742 is more likely to affect subjects with impaired coordination. [[footnote]] Usually due to alcohol consumption. [[/footnote]] * SCP-8742 is more likely to affect subjects unfamiliar with the location. * SCP-8742 is always triggered immediately prior to or during a fall of any kind into the water. SCP-8742 is the instantaneous translocation of an individual to the seafloor of their nearest ocean. The sudden shift in pressure will inevitably destroy the subject instantaneously, although their skeletal system will remain on the seabed due to the effects of a minor secondary anomaly that allows them to withstand the pressure. **Addendum-8742-A:** //Log of SCP-8742 Event.// The following footage was taken in Venice, Italy on July 6th, 2025.
