[[>]] [[module Rate]] [[/>]] **Item #:** SCP-9081 **Object Class:** Keter **Special Containment Procedures:** SCP-9081 is uncontained given its unpredictable pattern of appearance and global reach. Locations found selling packets of SCP-9081 are to be monitored, and all such packets must be promptly acquired and disposed of by Foundation personnel. A total of 10 SCP-9081 instances are to be kept at all times in a standard anomalous item locker at Site-8 for testing purposes. Testing of SCP-9081 requires Level 2 clearance or higher and approval from project lead Dr. Jacob Robinson. **Update 04/18/2017:** Following incident 9081-102235, the testing of SCP-9081 instances with labels warning against addiction has been permanently banned. **Description:** SCP-9081 is the designation for a series of cigarette packets created and distributed by GoI-006 ("The Factory") through anomalous means. Packets of SCP-9081 manifest spontaneously on shelves alongside standard tobacco products in retail locations worldwide. Analysis of the cigarettes has revealed nothing substantial, as they are largely identical to their non-anomalous counterparts. The properties of SCP-9081 manifest when all the cigarettes in a given packet are consumed by a single individual. Upon completion of the last cigarette, the individual will develop the exact medical condition depicted or described on the packet's warning label within 5 to 30 minutes. These illnesses or conditions manifest in a fully developed state, regardless of the individual's prior health or medical history. If the entire packet is not finished by a single individual (for example, if at least one cigarette is shared or discarded), no anomalous effects occur. Likewise, if the activation parameters are fulfilled by an individual already suffering from the condition described on the label, the anomaly does not take effect. Instead, it induces a compulsive effect, causing the individual to become resistant to the idea of rehabilitation. **Addendum 9081.1:** Testing Log **Subject:** D-935416 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking causes lung cancer." **Procedure:** D-935416 was instructed to smoke the entire packet at once. **Result:** D-935416 reported chest pains and severe breathing difficulties 12 minutes after smoking the last cigarette. X-ray scans revealed the presence of multiple cancerous growths of significant size in both lungs. D-935416 was pronounced dead approximately 5 hours later. **Subject:** D-268908 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking causes heart disease." **Procedure:** D-268908 was instructed to smoke one half of the packet, wait for an hour, and then smoke the other half. **Result:** D-268908 proceeded as instructed. No effects were observed after D-268908 finished the first half of the packet; however, 5 minutes after finishing the second half, D-268908 began to complain of sudden chest pains and palpitations. 15 minutes afterwards, D-268908 collapsed while he was being transported to Site-8's medical bay. Medical staff immediately initiated CPR after confirming D-268908's lack of pulse, and a defibrillator was applied 2 minutes afterwards. D-268908's heart then began to beat again, and he was stabilized in the medical bay. D-268908 was diagnosed with coronary artery disease following an evaluation. **Subject:** D-760915 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking causes impotence." **Procedure:** D-760915 was instructed to smoke one half of the packet. One week later, he was instructed to finish the other half. **Result:** D-760915 refused to proceed with the test at first, citing concerns regarding the nature of the warning label. After being reminded of the consequences of non-compliance and offered additional privileges, D-760915 agreed to continue with the procedure as planned. Approximately 11 minutes after finishing the final cigarette, D-760915 reported a sudden sensation of numbness in the groin area and mild abdominal discomfort. Medical personnel on standby conducted a physical examination of the affected areas and determined that D-760915 had developed severe erectile dysfunction. Subsequent examinations over the following two weeks revealed that the condition did respond to standard pharmaceutical treatments. **Subject:** D-448948 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking causes blindness." **Procedure:** D-448948 was instructed to smoke one half of the packet, wait for an hour, and then smoke the other half. **Result:** As D-448948 was already blind by the time of testing, SCP-9081 produced no observable effects. **Note:** Following the conclusion of the test, D-448948 asked staff if she could have another pack of cigarettes. Her request was denied, and she became briefly agitated. **Subject:** D-999775 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking kills." **Procedure:** D-271046 was instructed to smoke the entire packet at once. **Result:** Test aborted by order of the Ethics Committee. **Note:** //We already know what to expect of 9081 by now. Proceeding with this test would just result in a pointless waste of life and resources.// //— Ethics Committee chairman Ignacio Bolivar// **Subject:** D-999775 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking can harm your children." **Procedure:** D-999775 was instructed to smoke the entire packet at once. **Result:** No observable effects, as D-999775 does not have children. **Subject:** D-614941 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking can harm your children." **Procedure:** D-614941 was instructed to smoke the entire packet at once. **Result:** None observable initially. It was later discovered that D-614941's son, 26-year-old ████ ██████,[[footnote]]Name redacted for privacy.[[/footnote]] had been admitted to the Nashville General Hospital due to an acute case of Pneumonia. **Note:** Per order of the Ethics Committee, ████ ██████'s medical treatment is being funded by a Foundation front company. **Subject:** D-999775 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking causes emphysema." **Procedure:** All cigarettes in the packet were destroyed, with one single exception. D-999775 was instructed to consume the remaining cigarette. **Result:** No observable effects. **Subject:** D-102235 **Packet Warning:** "Smoking causes addiction." **Procedure:** D-102235 was instructed to smoke a cigarette per day until completion. **Result:** See Addendum 9081.2. [Multiple additional entries collapsed for brevity] **Addendum 9081.2:** Incident 9081-102235 Approximately 9 minutes after the consumption of the last cigarette, D-102235 began to display signs of severe nicotine dependency, requesting additional cigarettes and becoming increasingly agitated when denied. This condition escalated rapidly, with the subject attempting to obtain cigarettes from staff, other D-Class personnel, and trash cans over the next 48 hours following the conclusion of the test. It was therefore decided by Site-8 administration to place D-102235 under medical observation until his condition improved. Over the following 4 days, D-102235 exhibited progressively worsening withdrawal symptoms, including agitation, tremors, persistent nausea, irritability, and insomnia, despite the administration of sedatives and nicotine replacement therapies. On 04/18/2017, D-102235 began to shout incoherently and strike aggressively at his surroundings. When medical personnel attempted to administer sedatives, the subject attacked one staff member and then forced his way out of his designated chamber. Site security was alerted immediately afterwards, and a pursuit ensued. The subject then entered a janitorial closet, the door of which had been left ajar, and barricaded himself inside, taking a janitor who was inside at the time as a hostage. D-102235 then asked the janitor for cigarettes, becoming physically violent when told there were none. Negotiation attempts were initiated by Site security, who assured D-102235 that cigarettes would be provided if he complied and released the hostage. After approximately six minutes of verbal exchange, the subject agreed and exited the closet with his hands raised. Security personnel then discharged non-lethal munitions on D-102235 upon making eye contact, who collapsed shortly thereafter and then was restrained without further incident. The janitor sustained no significant injuries and was treated for bruising and acute stress. D-102235 was returned to its chamber. The use of anomalous methods to treat his addiction is currently pending approval.
