Proximity contact with SCP-9887 is forbidden unless permitted by the Founding Group. All handling must be done using radio-control equipment. A controlled supply of SCP-9887 is allotted to Psychotronics Division #7 to further our organization's goals. All requests and inquiries pertaining to the item should be forwarded to a division representative. **Description:** The material was impounded from a deep-sea mining operation targeting spiritual vortices in the North Atlantic Ocean. However, due to complications surrounding the project, a full yield of the material could not be obtained. As a result, an excess of 57 operatives were captured by the SCP object's effect by the year 1981. Recovery of the human assets buried in the seabed will not be attempted. Item SCP-9887 is a dark, igneous substance that produces a paranormal effect when near a human person. It becomes fluid and animate and will swiftly envelop its target. Once it has completely covered the person, it fixes them into a spread-eagle position and solidifies around their body. Recovering the subject from this state is difficult, as the material will instantly reform itself when struck with physical blows. The only proven methods are thermal cutting and vaporization, though these carry a risk of injuring or killing the person interred within. Research using low-value subjects indicates a secondary effect affecting the human persons entombed inside SCP-9887's substrate. Through unexplained means, the human inside cannot die by any natural cause as long as the enclosure remains unbroken. Pre-existing injuries and health conditions remain but are entirely halted in their progression and cannot worsen. This effect also extends to the subject's mind, preventing loss of consciousness, cognitive decline, and emotional death even after decades of isolation. Consequently, no post-traumatic symptoms related to SCP-9887 have been observed and no evidence of such officially exists. Under the Founding Group's direction, our organization aims to explore SCP-9887's utility as a long-term solution for retaining high-value people and prolonging their lives indefinitely. To this end, the Point Tehom complex has been marked as a site of ritual, where a cohort of wealthy benefactors will be transformed into a large human lattice and deposited into the Arctic seabed for hundreds of years. Extraction is scheduled for the year 2500, or when a viable method of recovering their bodies has been discovered. ------ [[collapsible show="Author's Note" hide="Hide Author's Note"]] Hi, everyone. This cute story is based on "cryonics", an occult practice of the wealthy and powerful. In other words, it's a tale of people having their bodies preserved like left-overs and waiting for someone to thaw them out millions of years later. Well, there's no guarantee that reheating your food will make it taste any better... Besides, can you really say for certain that the world will be a better place when you wake up? The well-read and educated people might look at you as if you were "Ötzi the Iceman", an ancient beast from the era of mythology. And if that ever happens, you won't know peace and quiet until the day you die for real! As for me, I intend to fulfill my promise to the world and boldly transform into a ground corpse. Then my rotten soul will be transported to heaven, where it will live as vibrantly as digested food. That's how you live the good life, isn't it? Thank you for reading. ✌️ [[/collapsible]] [[div class="footer-wikiwalk-nav"]] [[=]] << [[[SCP-9886]]] | SCP-9887 | [[[SCP-9888]]] >> [[/=]] [[/div]] [[include :scp-wiki:component:license-box]] ===== > **Filename:** sarcophagus.jpg > **Name:** Sarcophagus > **Author:** U.N.
