This is the second issue of Magpie Swoops and probably my favourite tale on the Wiki so far. It's fun, quirky and weird and it made me realise what kind of writer I want to me. 

There is a lot to Magpie Swoops that isn't yet on the Wiki. Normally I wouldn't put details here, but if my art exchange person decides to write for Magpie Swoops they'll need details so I'll put those here. These details will be removed once art exchange is done.

There are no common themes to Magpie Swoops. It's a publication that's open to anything so long as it's related to the anomalies in some way. It is very pro-anomaly, though. So, if the content is in any way disparaging, it won't be allowed to be published. Warnings about dangerous anomalies and how to deal with them are ok, though.

There are two characters who may appear depending on what you'd like to do. They are Diego Flores and Brian.

Diego: The owner of the magazine. He's been wanting to make it for years and has finally done it. And he's super excited. He would be so, so happy to have someone other than him and Brian add an article to the magazine. He's very helpful, perhaps to a point where it's a bit much. But he does not have bad intentions; he's just very happy to have people start to take notice of his life's dream and want to participate in it. 

Beyond that, Diego is, in general, a nice person. He's also highly experienced in the anomalous world and knows a lot more than you might expect him to. He's fascinated by the anomalous world and enjoys sharing stories about it. He also has terrible design skills (In the storyline, for lack of a better world, Diego made the first MS theme, and Brian has to convince him to change it because it got a heap of complaints from in-universe MS readers). These terrible design skills are something Brian is trying to rein in as much as he can.

Diego is terrible with technology, like really bad. It’s why Brian ends up making and improving the website because everytime Diego tries something it either doesn’t work or is a bit shit (think MS’s first theme).

Brian: He's tech support for MS, and in many ways, he's second-in-command. He handles the back end and whatever else is needed at the time. For example, he wrote up the second issue at Diego's request when Diego was too busy to do it. He's a nervous guy, not the best in social situations and prefers to keep to himself and his close friends, the closest of which is Diego. He's also no nonsense, like you can kinda see in the second issue, where he instructs people, "Don't do this, but if you do it, don't blame me."

He's also former Foundation though he hasn't said much about it and prefers not to speak of his time there. He left after he became friends with Diego, and Diego is one of the reasons he chose to depart. Diego is his best friend, and he'll do anything to help Diego's dream come true. Brian also has a huge crush on Diego. Diego doesn't know, and Brian is too nervous to tell him. I would go as far as to say Diego is oblivious to Brian's affection for him, even if the rest of the world finds it very obvious.

Like Diego, he knows a lot about the anomalous, though he's more cautious about it due to his time at the Foundation, which exposed him to more dangerous anomalies. He still uses them and interacts with them now, but only when he knows enough about them does he feel safe.

My first SCP and first ever work on the Wiki. It was inspired by the nostalgia I felt about my past, specifically when I found a little toy I thought I had thrown out years ago. It reignited memories in me, and I spent a long time living in those distant visions. But I realised that wasn't healthy, that I was taking things too far. Some time later, I needed an idea for my first SCP, and I decided to use that experience.

This article isn't the greatest work on the Wiki, nor is it my best. But I love it all the same because it marks the start of my journey on the Wiki and into the written world once again.

My second SCP article and one that is dear to my heart. This was inspired by the Gosford Glypths (Google it, you're in for a time), and the numerous problems faced by the Great Barrier Reef. I ended up commenting on both of these topics together, as I had a very different article planned at the start of this.

Originally, this was meant to involve the Serpent's Hand and GOC. But as you can see, it involved only one GOI, which is very different from the two I just mentioned. It was the right move to make these changes, and the article is much better for it.

I used Maya and ZBrush to create some of the images in this article (the dragon is obviously one of them). I learned while creating this that I have a long way to go in 3D modelling, and that my computer is not equipped for 3D modelling yet. But I plan to keep improving my computer and my modelling skills.

Oh boy, was this an article to write and get out. It's long (Around 12k words from memory) and is the longest work I have on the Wiki. I wrote it as my second entry for PDcon, and it acted as our SCP to meet the contest requirements. I had intended it to be much shorter, about 5-7k, but as you can see it is much, much longer. The increase in length largely came from crit, as the main crit I received can be summed up as: it's good, but it needs more character development. And thus, I kept writing until that crit went away.

The inspiration for this article came from my time working on the technical end of social media advertising. The toxicity on the platform and in my workplace helped build this. There are a few more inspirations, as those who read this may realise, that I won't be sharing for my own reasons. It was hard to write parts of this, but I liked what came from this. It's my best work on the Wiki so far, and I hope that I can improve further on it as I grow as a writer.

This tale is both a look into the personality of the Dorian Gray myself and my team created, and what some of the people I dealt with acted like.

This is my third and final work for PDcon. I wrote it in about 36 hours, as I was hit with a big rush of inspiration a few days before the end of the contest. Despite starting from scratch, I was able to get this written and published in time. I am quite proud of it, and it was my first time using CSS in an article that I wrote myself (I know the divs getting thinner isn't all that fancy, but it was a big step for me).

Beyond the above, there isn't too much to say about this one. It's simply snippets of Dorian's life, some of which I may expand on one day. I will say no one has found the Easter egg yet. But given how silly it is, I doubt anyone will.

I've been wanting to write something like this for a while. I've had an interesting in writing in newspapers and magazines from my teenage years, and while I never felt pursuing a career in journalism or something similar was for me, I still wanted to do something with that interest. This tale is a reflection of that desire. 

It's also a reflection of my love for horror. Ever since I was scared shitless by a movie when I war around 10, I've developed a love for horror. More specifically, this tale was partially inspired by Salem's Lot (which I recommend you all read).

I plan to write more Magpie Swoops in the future. I hope they improve with time, but for now this is a good start.

Overall, we came 17 out of 24. I am quite proud of that, both because it's a decent placement given it was our first contest, and a few IRL things that made writing difficult. I don't expect anyone to read this, but if someone finds their way to this page, and the bottom of it for that matter, I welcome you and thank you for taking an interest in me and my work. As I write this, I have only recently joined the Wiki (about 6 months ago), as I wanted to get seriously into writing after a decade of not writing anything but meeting notes and work reports.

I decided to join the Wiki on a whim, as I wanted to write but wasn't sure where to do so. I'd always enjoyed listening to or reading SCPs, so I decided to make the leap and become an author. And in that, I succeeded. I've written a few things now, critted a lot more than that (though my crit skills are not the best as of yet) and been enjoying my time on the Wiki as I read and chat with the community.

My ultimate goal is to get an article to +100. I don't know if I'll ever achieve it, but I hope I can someday.
