People, like webs, are interconnected, forever intertwining and unraveling in the world around them. To the spider, the web is a source of nourishment, comfort, safety. To the fly, it is a graveyard. Much like our Earth, it is a source of prosperity and of dread. The SCP Foundation and the GOC, once forces to be reckoned with, are now shells of their former selves. These organizations have been forced even further into the shadows by emerging powers, namely, the national organizations of the world, maintaining both their national interests and the veil itself. However, like the empires of old, they refuse to go gently. Despite their diminished state, the Foundation and the Coalition continue in their eternal struggle to abide by their mission statements, clawing their way into every facet of our modern world.

The sum of every organization is the people that make it up, the individual. The threats to these individuals remain the same as they always have, boundless horrors spanning space and time, but the most horrifying threat of all is our fellow man. Living on the graveyards of giants, we grapple to understand concepts we have only just begun to unearth. All the while, we are fueled by a cosmic desire to survive, to kill or be killed. Despite the advancements humanity as a collective has achieved—cures for diseases, the ability to meet our basic needs, people kill people as they always have. There is predator and there is prey. A dance is constantly performed by all trapped in the web, squirming to break free from their cocoons, all in the hope of becoming the next spider. Though all should take heed of the Great Weaver; sometimes the wage paid for this transformation is to hang one's self with their own silk.

+ The World

The Arachne is the work of two authors, [[*user Napalmdoctor556]] and [[*user USOdysseus]], and as such could be considered a blend of our interests into a coherent and organized package. VERY loosely rooted in [https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/wrong-proposal SCP-001 "Wrong Proposal"] as far as Foundation origin is concerned, though this is where the similarities end. This canon exists in a timeline where the SCP Foundation does not have the resources nor the manpower to maintain a large presence globally, although it certainly does try. During World War 2, the Foundation was, among many other things, prevented from obtaining large amounts of research and information that cemented their supremacy in many parasciences in other canons. Many organizations, mostly governments, have attempted to fill the void left by their lacking presence, with varying levels of success. The Foundation struggles to maintain a presence behind the veil, primarily focusing their efforts in non-aligned and less stable nations. While the timeline primarily focuses on the period between 1901 and the present, we will frequently explore events prior to the turn of the 20th century. **Most events within this canon shadow real life events, and as such, this canon deals with heavy and adult themes. Terrorism, war, religious extremism, corruption, civil unrest, espionage, police brutality, famine and genocide are only a handful of the themes that are and will be explored throughout this canon.** The primary goal of this project is to create a more grounded take on SCP lore, exploring how the world would react to the vacuum created by a diminished SCP Foundation, and a weakened and largely inept GOC. Though their reach is still global, they are far from the top players in this canon.

While this project does not exist in any specific canon, it certainly draws inspiration from some, at times directly borrowing SCPs, tales and continuities. Thematically, this project is closely related to [https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/the-coldest-war-hub The Coldest War], as well as [https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/third-law-hub#window Third Law], drawing inspiration from many of the core elements of both. [https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/memoria-adytum In Memoria, Adytum] is loosely drawn upon for inspiration regarding certain GOIs, including the Sarkic Cults and Daeva. If we were to list every canon or main site article that we enjoy or draw inspiration from, this would be an exhaustive and long winded list. The bottom line is that this site houses a wealth of incredible work, and we’re grateful to be able to take bits and pieces of what we like, and mold them through our own creative processes to get the product that you see here today. To the readers, writers, and creatives of the SCP universe, thank you so much! + The Weavers
There are many organizations working under what is colloquially and commonly referred to as the "veil". These organizations, dubbed //Groups of Interest// (GoI or GOI), all have their own reasons for doing what they do. Some work at the behest of national governments, some seek to dismantle the veil and allow knowledge of the anomalous to flow freely into public perception, and some only seek to sow chaos, destruction, and usher in a new era where they are the ones in charge. What is important to remember is that these GOI, big or small, are the sum of the individuals that make them up. Regardless of who they work for, individuals have their own morals, perceptions, life experiences, and as such, no one person will be like another. This list is expansive, and as groups become a larger part of the overall narrative, a more in depth description of their history will be added to this list.

+++ The "Big" Two
Formerly the two largest and most well known organizations behind the veil, both the SCP Foundation and the United Nations Global Occult Coalition have lost much of their manpower and influence throughout the course of their existence. The years have not been kind to these groups, and much of their dominance in occult affairs has been usurped by the many national bodies. As such, both organizations have been placed on the backfoot when it comes to anomalous affairs. Despite this, these two organizations continue their work, bound by their mission statements and doing what they can to maintain a foothold in the ever evolving modern world.

+++ The National Organizations
By far the most varied, most numerous and most involved organizations behind the veil are those that work at the behest of national governments. Comprised of police, military and intelligence agencies—they seek to advance the interests of the countries they belong to, protect the citizens, counter external influence and ensure that the general public never becomes widely aware of the anomalous. Many of these groups have formed joint federations, both temporary and permanent. These organizations primarily combat terror groups, organized crime syndicates, traffickers, anartists and cult religions that threaten the normalcy that has been maintained for generations. While on the surface their goals may seem noble, many of these organizations have done terrible things both to maintain the status quo and their standing within the global struggle for power and influence. Below, you will find the full histories of these organizations, laid out by continent. More will be added as they are included in the narrative.

+++ Hostile Veil Actors
Complex motives and a range of ideologies fuel what has been broadly deemed "Hostile Veil Actors" or HVA's. These organizations care very little for the maintenance of the veil, and will either embed themselves into society to further the interests of their groups, or will take part in efforts of subterfuge and covert action against the organizations that maintain said veil. There is one constant across the world; if there is a major problem plaguing the organizations who protect the public and maintain the veil, it is often caused by one of these HVAs.
