This clandestine operation resulted in the abduction of one Class VIII Reality Bender Special Asset, Dr. Melina Aganonstis, and one Class V Reality Bender and multi-role combat Asset, Agent Cardea Gataki.

A thunderstorm rumbles across the darkened southern skies in the high hills of Birmingham, Alabama. Patters of rain tinkle against the windows of the mid-century home, illuminated only by the flashes of lightning in the far distance. 

Somewhere in the house, a grandfather clock chimes with the turning of the hour, 10 bells ringing one after another. The bedroom is a mess, clothes and suitcases strewn about. Their owners are tucked beneath the covers, passed out from a combination of jetlag and pure exhaustion. 

This won't last much longer. 

Cell phones buzz on the end tables to either side of the bed, hands emerging like vipers from beneath the blankets to send the calls to voicemail. Instead of abating, they ring again. 

Then the landline begins to ring. With an agitated cry of frustration, a woman emerges from beneath the blankets, sitting up in bed, crimson curls caught in the glow of a flash of lightning. It booms in her ears, rattling the teeth in her skull and startling the other person out from under the covers into wakefulness. 

She mashes the x button on her phone, sending the call to voicemail, and starts to type a vicious text-message filled with obscenities when a single text-line comes through SMS. 

"Breach." The blankets fly away as the land line starts to ring again. A yank from its receiver, pressing into her ear. She's wide awake now. 

"O5-01-03, speak fast." 

All the color drains from her face when the words come through the other end. "Melina and Cardea have been abducted." 

"How long ago?" 

"An hour." 

"Why the fuck are you only just calling //now//?" 

"I--" 

"Nevermind, we don't have time. Send a jet to Shuttlesworth, and a helicopter to our home. You know the address?" 

She listens to the reply. "Good. I want details, send them to my email ASAP. Full report. Don't fucking bother formatting it, I want it raw." She chews her lip, drawing blood. "This doesn't leave the site. I want comms lockdown. We'll be in Scotland by morning." She pauses. "I want the twins in my office before noon." 

She listens to the person on the other end. Her lips turn up into a snarl. "I don't care if they're on Venus itself, just make it fucking happen." She slams the phone down on the receiver, and rubs her temples. 

Her partner is already packing a bag. "Urgent?" 

"Security breach." 

"Really?" 

"They took Melina and Cardea." 

Her partner pauses, looking up at her. "Oh."
