Congratulations. As of this moment, you are now involved in the most significant human engineering project in unrecorded history.

Your task is to find a means to construct and launch a crewed interstellar spacecraft before the end of this year.

Attached, you will find briefing materials explaining why this is necessary, which should also help you determine the requisite performance parameters of the spacecraft. Actually, it works with rats too. PLabs developed a breed of super-smart lab rats for use in cognition studies, and it turns out they can be used to trigger a bunch of different anomalies that would otherwise require a human. It's how we built the moon base.

Found something in our files from PLabs -- looks like they were trying to pull a Canvera 20 years ago. Take a look at this: they were gonna use a subatomic black hole to power a starship. They got as far as building the gamma ray reflector before ditching it in orbit around Herculina.

Tabby, I'm looking at these figures from PL, and I don't know if this is going to work. Look at the thrust profile, the acceleration is measured in centimeters per second per second. Canvera's Fifthists are burning out-system at almost a full gee. We'll never catch them with this, even if we could ignite the black hole.

Before we open up that can of worms, there's a much simpler solution here. We use a smaller black hole, one that //actually// has less mass.

Less massive black hole = more power output and less mass to accelerate. If we can get the hull down to a hundred thousand metric tons, a black hole half that mass would get us 1g.

I think we should be good? The reflector is electronium, so it shouldn't have any issues. The supercon blades might be a concern, but PL's docs say they're rated to withstand a supernova. So it's probably fine.

Okay, this is promising. Any ideas on how we funnel the output into the black hole though? The mouth is going to be less than a tenth of an attometer. I don't think we can mash them up into a particle beam without triggering the replication.

Seems like we've worked out tenative solutions to the major issues, at least.

* The GOC can use apportation to get our engineering teams out to the Daedalus
* We'll use a smaller black hole to get more thrust, and lighten the ship as much as we can using thaumaturgy (as well as more conventional mass saving methods)
* We'll use SCP-871 and SCP-786 to feed mass into the black hole at a steady rate to offset the mass lost from Hawking radiation
* The Gormogons will supervise the construction of a thaumo-nuclear bomb-pumped laser array that will be used to ignite the black hole
* Installation of remaining operational systems will be handled by on-site engineering crews; figuring out what systems will be needed for the mission, other than propulsion, is outside the scope of this working group

I think that's enough pre-production to start inking things out. I'll get to work on the schematics for cake sorting, shrinkage, and propulsion. A confection-based black hole feed system. Rolls right off the tongue, doesn't it?
